It's Cold: Bring Your Dogs Inside, Part 2

Dogs in the southern US are freezing to death. From Texas:

Beaumont Police say a dog found dumped in a trash can died from the cold or starvation and animal control officers have seized three other dogs that appear to be malnourished and suffering from exposure to the freezing temperatures.

All four dogs are pit bulldogs.

[...]

"Three were chained to fixed objects in the yard. One had a wooden dog house and two others had plastic dog houses. They're alive but appear to be malnourished and suffering from exposure to the cold. One is in a dog house and won't come out. It's so cold it can hardly move."

There is a slideshow at the link of the dogs and their inadequate dog houses and poor conditions.

Feeding them is a good idea too.

Here in the land of 10,000 frozen lakes it is common knowledge that, rather than starving them, one actually gives one's dogs extra food when it's cold. Especially if they're short-coated dogs who aren't acclimated to the cold.

This, exactly.

I'm actually getting a little tired of hearing from the rest of the country that it isn't THAT cold down here in the Lone Star State. Screw that, it's in the 20s and teens DURING THE DAY, that's a little too cold for me with a wool and down jacket on, and my fluffier spitz breed is even feeling the chill since Texas != grow winter coat.

I swear, it's like pulling teeth to get people to bring their dogs inside, sometimes. Why they'd get a dog to live outside only in the first place is a mystery to me too, but they're not my dogs, I guess. It's the same people who leave them out during Texas summers, too.
